Common Name: Cypress of the Pantanians or Cypress Careca (because it's a cypress of caduca leaf)

Scientific name: Metasequoia Glyptostroboides

Characterization: It belongs to the Cupressaceas family, being the Metasequoia originating from China.

There is a "parent" called Taxodium, which is the originator of the Southeast American. Both are "parent" of the "gigantes" of plant nature, the Sequoias.

Large-sized deciduous trees can easily reach the 40 meters high, and 3 or more meters diameter of the base of the trunk.

The bark is grayish and the composite leaves, being paired in Metasequoias and alternations in the Taxodium.

In nature they live in very watery areas, Florida often in swamps (hence one of the common names), so we must always have a lot of attention with watering and its high water consumption.

Location: Outside where they catch 2 to 3 hours of sun per day (ideal in the morning or in the late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frosts.

In order to avoid the typical epic burns of the leaves by dehydration in summer, we must protect them from the hours of strong sun, giving preference to sun exposures to rising or sharp.

Water: To water abundantly the earth until a lot of water goes out through the drain holes in order to moisten evenly the soil, always above never by immersion, with a fine drain waterer.

Tips on watering, see technical data collection.

Let to dry very slightly the surface layer of the soil between waterings, and in summer keep always wet the soil, when the leaves fall we must allow to dry a little more between waterings (to confirm if the plant already needs water, touch the earth with the fingers).

If you have a dish under Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).

There is no advantage in spraying the leaves, just do it in the days when it adds up and if the fertilizer goes for foliar application, but ensure that they arrive dry at night to avoid fungi.

Nutrition: From February to October, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), can still be linked with other products in our range.

Detailed information on how to combine these products the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, see complete nutrition plan technical sheet.

Poda: Above a couple of leaves, returning the shape, usually in the winter formation pruning, get strong back to the "basic" because they have a very vigorous growth, usually you can easily keep the way by doing "Metsumi" with your fingers in the new buds that are born.

Tips on pruning, see the technical sheet pruning and defoliation.

Transplantation: In January/February before budding with Terra Bonsai Folhosas because although they are coniferous, they need a lot of moisture retention.

Details about transplantation, post transplantation and specific fortifiers that you can use refer to repotting technical sheet.

Pluming: From the end of autumn to the beginning of spring, after the fall of the leaves, given the rapid growth and thickening of the trunk we should be careful for the wires not to crease.

Indications on padding, see wiring technical sheet.
